Bill Goss is a retired educator, author, historian, genealogist, and a Tallassee native. He was born and reared in East Tallassee and graduated from Tallassee High School in 1948. He earned degrees from Troy University (B.S.) in 1951 and Auburn University (M.Ed.) in 1958. For 38 years, he was a high school teacher of history, social studies, journalism, English, and principal/school administrator. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force, as a S/Sgt, for four years (1951-1955), during the Korean War. He has lived and worked in Alabama, Texas, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Morocco, Florida, Germany, Turkey, and Georgia. Bill returned to Tallassee in December 1995, after a 45 year absence. Since returning to Tallassee, Bill worked part-time at the Hotel Talisi and has been a funeral home assistant for the past ten years. Currently, he is the historian of the Talisi Historical Preservation Society, and past commander of Tallassee Post 118, American Legion. Bill has a weekly live radio program, "The History of Tallassee," on WTLS, on Wednesday mornings.
