Gregory Curtis Rhinehart, 65, of Tallassee, Alabama passed away November 28, 2019. He was born March 27, 1954 in Panama City, Florida.

He graduated from the University of Alabama and spent his career at the Alabama Historical Commission as an archaeologist.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jennie Rhinehart; sons James Gregory Rhinehart, Geoffrey T. Rhinehart (Ashley) and Andrew Brown; sisters Stephanie Dawson and Ruthie Hatch (David) and grandchildren Jaiden, Luke and Sawyer Rhinehart. He is preceded in death by parents, Evelyn and Clarence Rhinehart, brother, Geoff Rhinehart and brother-in-law, Ben Dawson.

He loved history, vintage cars, photography, music, cartoons, movies, Christmas and Bama football.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Pappy), brother, favorite uncle, coach and mentor who saw the world through rose-colored glasses. His positivity, encouragement and generosity to others was endless.

He will be remembered for his fun-loving laugh, his hilarious antics and misadventures, his knowledge of all things historical, along with a wealth of useless trivia. A fierce defender of family and friends, he shared his time, his humor, and, mostly, his unconditional love.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a gathering from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at Linville Memorial Chapel, 84632 Tallassee Highway, Eclectic, AL 36024. A family memorial is planned in Panama City at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospital or Community Hospital Foundation.

I really did enjoy being around Greg Rhinehart because he would come to my brother Lee Greer's house for Alabama college football Games and he was such a wonderful person to be around and now that he passed away things will never be the same again but he will always be remembered and he will always be with us in spirit no matter where we are or what we're doing. My thoughts and condolences go out to everyone who knew Greg Rhinehart and his family and friends.

I remember Greg's wit, intelligence, kindness, but most of all his crazy humor! I was one of the bridesmaids at Greg and Jennie's wedding. That rascal kept making goofy faces at me during the ceremony -- just daring me to break down and laugh, instead of remaining a composed attendant to the beautiful bride! And I loved that he cracked jokes during Uncle Lewis' (Jennie's father) wake --- Uncle Lewis aka Uncle Buck would have delighted in that! Sending love and fond memories to Jennie and all the family.

Growing up, seeing and staying with Uncle Greg and Aunt Jennie was always the highlight of summers and holidays. Uncle Greg had a wonderful soul, and his smile and love for others could always light up a room. Praying for my lovely Aunt Jennie, James, Geoffrey, Ashley and Andrew, along with the grandchildren he loved so dearly. The world lost a little of it's light the other day, but I'm glad it shined on us for so many years, and will continue to shine until we reunite. Love you buddy.
