Betty Faye Segrest Garcia, 80, of Notasulga, Alabama, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, after a brief illness.  She was born November 30, 1942.

The family will host a memorial service on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 3:00 pm, at Liberty City Methodist Church, 5607 Tallapoosa Street, Notasulga, Alabama.

Faye is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Richard Garcia; sister-in-law, Maydean Segrest; and several nieces and cousins.   She is preceded in death by her stepson, Ricky Garcia; parents, Robert and Lois Segrest; brother, Bobby Segrest; and sisters, Annie Lee and Jean Freeman.

Faye graduated from Auburn University with a Master’s degree in Education and spent the next thirty-four years working in the Florida and Alabama Public School Systems.  Her last eighteen years before retirement were spent teaching inmates at J. F. Ingram State Technical College in adult basic education classes.  She valued the importance of education and passed that on to all her students, making a difference in many lives along the way.

Faye loved horses and joyfully lived the rodeo life with her husband.  She also loved her dogs and cats!  She was crowned Alabama Rodeo Queen in 1964 and was a champion barrel racer.  Faye was a loving wife, fiercely loyal friend, and devoted teacher.  She was loved and respected by many.
