It is with deep love and remembrance that we celebrate the life of Betty June Griffith of Eclectic, Alabama. June passed away at the age of 89 on October 31, 2025. June was born on March 23, 1936 in Troy, Alabama. October 31 (1908) also marked the birth of June's beloved mother, Myrtle Smyth. June devoted many years to providing her mother with loving care until Myrtle's passing in 1995 in Phenix City, Alabama. The greatest testament to June's gentle kindness and generosity of spirit is the circle of many devoted and loving friends who cherished her companionship and warmth and who will miss her enormously.June appreciated the simple joys of daily life such as feeding the birds in her yard, keeping her lovely yard and flower beds tidy, putting together puzzles, listening to her favorite oldies music, sitting on her porch, and above all talking daily with her many dear friends.A woman of deep and genuine faith, June contributed greatly to the fellowships of Refuge Baptist Church and also later Watson Chapel Church. For many years she provided compassionate support to help others be able to stay in their homes as they aged and also volunteered at the Children's Harbor thrift store.
Having been born and raised in Troy AL, June later lived in far-flung places including Huntsville AL, Yorktown Heights NY, New Orleans LA, and Greenville SC. June was delighted to return home to Alabama and spend the last 30 years of her life in the close-knit Red Hill-Eclectic community — a place filled with people she loved and who loved her in return.
June is preceded in death by her parents, brother, first husband, other close family members including her always-supportive father-in-law Arvel, and many cherished friends, among them Jo, Earl, Ozzie, and more. June is also preceded in death by her deeply beloved canine companion Dog-Dog whom June rescued and gave a loving home, and by her more recent precious dog Mimi.June is survived by her son Eric (Wendy). She is also survived by her former husband and later devoted friend and helper Wayne (Julie) and by dear friends including Rebekah and Judah, Diane and Rodney, Ann, Benita, Mary and Barney, Lori, Steve, and others who loved her.A private service will be held at a later date.
