Billy "Joe" Atkins passed away July 6, 2026 with family at his side. He was born February 13, 1959.
Joe was a hard working man filled with a vast amount of knowledge and expertise. That knowledge and expertise ranged across several fields, including heavy equipment, mechanics, farm work, and carpentry. Joe was also a strong man and worked diligently to provide for his family through any means necessary. He was a kind hearted man that helped those in need, even beyond his family. He was a man of few words but spoke with conviction.
During his free time, he enjoyed working as his primary hobby and found himself at peace after a hard day's work. He started his day early and worked well into the night throughout his life, a dying breed of men. Another hobby that he enjoyed was racing, including sprint car racing and racing go karts on vacations.
Joe is survived by his wife of 38 years, Brenda Atkins; children, Billy, Ben, Brandon, Austin (Jessie), and Brady (Bailey and a special granddaughter Riley). He had a large family including his stepmom, Val Atkins; and siblings, CJ (Leah) Atkins, Daniel (Danielle) Atkins, Jon (Penny) Atkins, Jan (Jamie) Smith and many grandchildren. Joe was the patriarch of the Atkins family and everyone leaned on him for guidance.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Clyde Atkins; his mother, Arie Taunton; and brother, Jim Atkins.
Funeral arrangements will be on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Providence Primitive Baptist Church. A public viewing to honor the hardest working man in the area will begin at 9:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 am with Elder Richard Pinnell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
