Charles (Chuck) Wayne Hicks, a resident of Lake Martin, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born in Headland, Alabama, Chuck graduated from Auburn University in 1959 with a degree in Building Construction. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Manheim, Germany. His assignment in Europe sparked a lifelong passion for travel and adventure. Chuck was always eager to share his "brief" stories of the many places he visited and the people he met along the way.
His travels took him across Europe, the Mediterranean, Canada, Finland, Japan, Guatemala, Panama Canal, Russia, and numerous destinations in the United States, including an unforgettable eight-day rafting trip through the Grand Canyon with his sons Clay and Patrick. Chuck also said visiting Normandy on the 70 th anniversary of D-Day, and the architecture and grandeur of the cathedrals, especially Notre Dame were among his favorites, but few surpassed the views from his home "The Last Resort" on Lake Martin.
Chuck was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, known for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita (Nita) Pemberton Hicks, of Lake Martin; his sons, Clay Hicks (Ronda) of Pelham, and Patrick Hicks (Stephanie) of Milton, GA; and four grandchildren, Christian Hicks, Karsten Hicks, Blake Hicks, and Madeline Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho Theodore Hicks and Willie Mae Hicks, and his brother, Bill G. Hicks.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Grace Pointe Church of Christ, 1565 Ray Thorington Rd, Montgomery, Alabama, with Scotty Harris officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, Alabama, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Chuck's memory and his love of adventure.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all their relatives, lake friends, church family, and caregivers for their love and support. Special thanks to Curt and Sue Pemberton, Bill and Janice Pemberton, the family of Larry and Brenda Price, Dr. Bob and Sandy Engles, and Stan (Kathy) Hicks, and friend and caregiver, Kim Rieves.
