Donald Charlie Pate (Papaw), age 89, went to his eternal home with the Lord and his "beautiful bride" on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Mr. Pate passed peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Donald was the first and only son born to Charlie and Nellie Pate on August 11, 1933 in Tallassee, Alabama. Donald graduated from Tallassee High School and married Margaret Oliver. He worked at the mill in Tallassee before joining the Army where he worked as Sgt. E7 until retirement. After retirement he enjoyed working part time with friends at Ben Atkinson Motors. In his younger years Donald enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling on their league and ballroom dancing with his beautiful Margaret (Mamaw). As they grew older, they enjoyed singing in the choir and fellowship with their church family at Friendship Baptist Church, spending time with their family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They spent evenings watching Gunsmoke or Alabama Football. Throughout their 66 years of wonderful marriage, they raised 4 precious children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other children along the way.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Pate, parents Charlie and Nellie Pate and sister Connie Webster. He leaves behind his beloved children, Michael Pate, Gregory Pate, Rhonda (Les) Kent, and Wanda Bice; sister Brenda (Howard) Webster; grandchildren, Cameron Bice, Tiffany (Tim) Morse, Courtney Bice, Mason Kent, Lauren (Zack) Fomby, Cody (Sonia) Faulk, Chelsey Pate, and Lindsey (Tye) Thom and great-grandchildren, Ciarra, Cambrea, Landon, Cody Jr., Naomi, Kaleena, Jaylen, Gatlin and Adley along with a host of precious nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church Tallassee, Alabama.
