Eddie Frank Britt

Eddie Frank Britt passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Tallassee, Alabama.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, Charles Edward Britt and Frances Elizabeth Anderson Britt; stepmother, Christine Crockett Britt; and sister, Shirley Elaine Britt Williams. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth West Britt; his son, Steven Bowman Britt, DVM (Anne); stepchildren, Christopher B. Harris (Cheryl), Beth Harris Cohen (Seth) and Amy Harris Wilkes (David); grandchildren, Steven Thomas Britt (Ananya), Christine Elizabeth Britt and Elizabeth Wilkes Brown (Kemper); and great-granddaughter, Emily Mae Brown.

Eddie Frank was part of that generation whose childhoods and early adulthoods were shaped by the Great Depression, World War II, and the Korean Conflict. He loved family, farming, and fishing, especially on Lake Martin and in Apalachicola. He experienced great joy in watching his grandchildren grow into adults of exemplary character and goodness.

A graduate of Tallassee High School in 1950, he was one of "Hot's Boys" and considered being coached by Coach O'Brien and part of the team a distinct privilege and a happy unforgettable experience. He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Alabama and attended Troy State University.

Eddie Frank Britt joined the Alabama National Guard in 1947, in Tallassee, Alabama, as a member of Co. C, 200th Inf. Bn., 31st Inf. "Dixie" Division. He was called to active duty in 1951, and sent to Fort Jackson, SC, and on to Korea where he was assigned to the Co. A, 7th Inf. Regt, 3rd Inf. Div., seeing combat in the Korean War. He returned to the states and was released from active duty in late 1952. He returned to the Alabama National Guard and retired in 1982 as a Major.

Eddie Frank retired from Southern National Gas in 1992 after 36 years of service. He spent many years enjoying the drive to the homeplace in Reeltown raising cattle, gardening, and fishing in his spare time. He received the Tallapoosa County Cattlemen's Association 2004 Cattleman of the Year award.

He will be greatly missed. However, his devotion and love of his family and country, his kindness, bravery, tenacity, and perseverance throughout life's challenges will remain with us. He leaves behind a rich legacy of loyalty, love, wisdom, and service to his family, community, and country which will long endure.

He was a member of First Methodist Church, Tallassee, and especially enjoyed the Men's Sunday School Class. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Visitation will be held at 11 am in the Sanctuary at First Methodist Church on Saturday, July 12, 2025 with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 noon.

Gratitude is expressed to the FMC family and the many friends who called, texted, prayed, sent cards, and inquired about him; Tallassee's Community Hospice who provided such loving and professional care and support; Community Hospital; and our caregivers, Sharica Driscol, Nancy Foster and Vanessa Lewis.
