Mr. Edwin C. Elder, a life-long resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born February 14, 1936.
Edwin is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Hazel (Story) Elder. He is also preceded by his devoted sister, Betty Jo Sims, and their parents, Sterling Curtis and Katie Mae Elder.
He is survived by his son Sterling Elder, son Randy McQueen (granddaughters Kristin Lane, Heather Henderson and Tyla Miller), and son Mike McQueen (granddaughters Stephanie McQueen and Ashley Moseley, and grandson Michael McQueen, Jr.). In addition there are also twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by loving niece Carla Jo Taylor, and nephews Jimmy Sims and Larry Sims.
Edwin was a loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and loyal, devoted friend to countless others who knew him. He was a loyal member of the Tallassee High School Class of 1954. Early in life, "Lil Boss" followed in the farmer boot steps of his father, "Boss Elder." As his family grew, Edwin left farming behind and worked for many years at Mount Vernon Mills. In addition, he was a patriotic Alabama National Guard veteran of 27 years, having served in Operation Desert Storm as Staff Sergeant with the Tallassee 731st Maintenance Battalion.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 11 from 11:00 am until service time of at Linville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 12 noon with Rev. Jay Woodall officiating.
