Ora Nell Martin

Ora Nell Martin, 89, of Tallassee, died March 17, 2018 in an Elmore County nursing home. She was a resident of Tallassee, with a brief time in Bagdad, FL in the 1950s and recently in Montgomery and Prattville.

She was married for 38 years to the late John Durell Martin of Bagdad. Mrs. Martin frequently said she was not blessed with children, but she and her husband surrounded themselves with many devoted nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Martin and Eric Aldridge of Tallassee; her mother and father, Jewel and Frank Stewart; and four sisters, Margaret Hammonds, Annie Joe Lewis, Mary Charles Hatchett and Byrle Asher.

She was a training supervisor for Russell Corporation in Montgomery for 10 years and retired from John M. Patterson State Technical School in 1996. An essential part of her life, no matter where she lived, was her commitment to her local church. In Montgomery she was a member of McGee Road Baptist Church and a returning member of Elam Baptist Church in Tallassee. Her frequent refrain was, “God has been good to me all my life.”

She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and a multitude of good friends.

Funeral will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 2 pm at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Elam Cemetery, Linville Memorial Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service, beginning at 1 pm.
