Sara Hornsby

September 18, 1928 — April 22, 2018

Former Tallassee resident Sara Hammock Hornsby, 89, passed away the afternoon of April 22, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Andrew Goodwin Hornsby. Mrs. Hornsby was born September 18, 1928 in Tallapoosa County to Eddie and Lois Hammock.

She was a highly involved member of River Road Baptist Church in Tallassee where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Hornsby's favorite pastimes were cooking, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She lived in Tallassee until she moved to the Village at Cook Springs in Cook Springs, Alabama in 2011.

Mrs. Hornsby is survived by her two siblings, Doris Balfour and Wayne Hammock, and her three children: Patsy Huey, Janice Scarrette (David), and Larry Hornsby (Carol). Also surviving are her eight granddaughters and grandson: Pamela Thornell, Alicia Diego (Miguel), Beth Acreman, Martha Thornell, Laurie Knowles (Steve), Melissa Garnett-Shouse, Andrea Hannifan, Drew Hornsby (Miranda), and Laura Hornsby Lesley (Justin). She has eleven surviving great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held April 25 at 1:30 pm at the Macedonia Christian Church Cemetery, 2685 Macedonia Road in Tallassee, Alabama. Linville Memorial Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements. Reverend Floyd Carmack will be officiating. Pall bearers are: Drew Hornsby, Justin Lesley, Kyle Acreman, Miguel Diego, David Scarrette, and Eric Pugh.

Donations in Mrs. Hornsby's memory may be directed to the Larry G. and Carol C. Hornsby Family Endowed Scholarship in Nurse Anesthesia at the UAB School of Nursing or the Village at Cook Springs Activities Department. Giving instructions for each are as follows:
