Mr. Thomas “Sonny” Christian, 78, of Tallassee, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born October 30, 1936.
Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2015 from 10 am to 12 noon at First Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 12 noon with Rev. Derek Gentle and Rev. Isaac Kervin officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Linville Memorial Funeral Home directing.
He is survived by wife of 51-1/2 years, Ann Christian; son, Wes Christian (Denise); siblings, Sue Wilbanks (Charles), Doug Christian (Carol) and Linda Vaught (Jimmy); special buddy “Eli” and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas P. Christian; mother, Vera Maude Christian Shores; stepfather, H. L. Shores; special uncle, Curt Christian; and nephews, Jeff Harris Christian and Chris Vaught.
Sonny served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Senior Adult Choir and the Baracca Class at First Baptist Church of Tallassee, a member of the Talisi Historical Preservation Society, and part of the group that remodeled the Superintendent’s House that took four years to complete. He was part of the Tuesday night card group at Tallassee Senior Center. He retired from Hava-Tampa Cigars from the former Pensacola/Montgomery offices and also retired from Alabama Power. He served as Executive Director of ACTS. He was awarded the President’s Award from the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Auburn football fan. In all his activities, he was loyal and faithful to support Ann in all her activities.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Talisi Historical Preservation Society or the Memorial Garden of First Baptist Church.
