Tony M. Taylor

Apr 6, 1951 — Nov 3, 2026

Tony M. Taylor, 75, of Eclectic, Alabama, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach passed away on November 3, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on April 6, 1951, Tony was a member of the Class of 1969 at Elmore County High School and played basketball. He graduated from University of Montevallo in 1974 and for over 50 years he was a Physical Education and Math teacher. His true calling, however, was coaching.

Tony began his career with stops at Clay-Chalkville and Stanhope Elmore before joining the new Pelham High School. While teaching at coaching at Pelham, he met his wife Fran. They married in 1982, and celebrated their 44th anniversary in May. In 1986, Tony and Fran moved home to Eclectic to coach at Elmore County HS. In 1999 Tony began coaching at Catholic in Montgomery where he also served as Athletic Director. In 2006 Tony moved to Edgewood Academy where he was able to coach his own son. He finished his full-time career at Hardaway HS, Stanhope Elmore, and Coosa Central. After retirement, Coach Taylor still volunteered and coached at Elmore County High School where he was coaching until he was hospitalized in July. He touched thousands of lives from both students he coached and fellow coaches during his career.

His faith was the foundation of his life. He was devoted member of Good Hope Baptist Church since 1960. Tony served as a Deacon for 30 years, and was leading a Sunday School class until his passing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Fran, who stood as his partner through every season of life; his son, Alex, and daughter-in-law, Alli; and his three grandchildren, Arlee, Ellis, and Camille. He leaves behind a loyal group of siblings; Steve Taylor, Kenny Taylor, and Penny Harper, as well as a large extended family and numerous friends and coaching buddies.

Visitation and funeral will be held at Good Hope Baptist Church, visitation Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 3-6 pm, and funeral service on Monday, November 9, 2026 at 12 pm. Pastor Jamey Walls officiating. Graveside to follow at Good Hope Baptist Cemetery.
