Virginia Atkins

July 8, 1939 — February 4, 2026

With her family by her side, Virginia Atkins, 86 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior February 4, 2026 following complications from a cardiac arrest.

Virginia was born July 8, 1939 in Red Hill, AL where she grew up and met her husband of sixty-seven years, Ben Atkins. She was a longtime resident of Atkins Road, in Elmore County Alabama. Virginia was a graduate of Tallassee High School and, after raising her three children, she worked and retired as a rural mail carrier with the US Postal Service in Tallassee, Alabama. She was an active member of Mount Hebron East Baptist Church.

Some of her favorite things to do were spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling with her husband, cooking for her family, and working crossword and wordsearch puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lurena Ingram, one sister, and four brothers. She is survived by her husband, Ben Atkins; her sister, Retta Stevens; her children Pam Eason (husband, Mike), Rebecca Thornton (husband, Bobby); and Bruce Atkins (wife, Tonya); her grandchildren, Seth, Brian, Maggie, Kyle, Brenden, Morgan, and Laiken; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 6, 2026 at Good Hope Baptist Church. Bro. Jake Walker and Bro. Steve Scarborough will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be memorial contributions to Gideon International or Mount Hebron East Baptist Church.
